THE LAW
Your child may be eligible to receive free tutoring from DS Learning.
The Elementary and Secondary Education Act, also known as No Child Left Behind, or NCLB, requires every state to provide free tutoring, or Supplementary Educational Services (SES), for eligible students attending schools needing improvement. So if your child attends a school designated for improvement, this after-school tutoring could be completely free to you!
You may have already received a letter from your child’s school or district telling you that your child qualifies for free tutoring. If so, great! Your school or district will provide you a list of tutoring providers and an enrollment form to sign up your student. Your next step is to choose the best tutoring service for your child.
If you have not received any notification that your student is eligible, then please contact us and we can tell you exactly which schools participate in providing Supplemental Education Services.
Or, you can search on the California Department of Education website to find out if your student’s school is offering services.
Click on the link below, then for each of your students,
- Use the drop down menu to choose your county, click “Submit”
- Select the Report for the most recent year, click “Submit”
- Scroll down to find your school district
- Find your school
- The far right column indicates each school’s PI Status. PI stands for Program Improvement. If the school is in Year 2, 3, 4, or 5 PI, your school is offering SES services. Schools in Year 1 PI do not offer services.
If you find your school is participating, please contact us or your school to find out if your child is eligible to participate.
PARTNERSHIP
Standards-Based, Data-Driven Engaging Learning Made Fun!
When you choose DS Learning, we immediately arrange for a tutor to meet with you and your student in person before tutoring begins. Tutors are matched with students to ensure that each student has a positive experience. Our tutor conducts an assessment in your home with your child to produce a score that will serve as a starting point for tutoring.
Sessions are individualized!
You set a schedule of sessions with the tutor based on what is convenient to you and your family. Schedules can vary depending on what works for you! Some examples include:
- One hour one day a week (Example: Thursdays, 4 to 5 pm)
- One hour two days a week (Example: Tuesdays and Thursday, 4 to 5 pm)
- One hour three days a week (Example: Wednesdays, Thursdays 4 to 5 pm, and Saturdays 10 – 11 am)
- 90 minutes two days a week (Example: Wednesdays 4:30 – 6 pm, Saturdays 3 – 4:30 pm)
- 2 hours one day a week (Tuesdays 6 to 8 pm)
